Counseling Psychologist, Counselor and Marriage & Family Therapist Intern
The way I work is quite personal and very human. I’m not the sort of therapist who will sit quietly while you do all the talking and leave you wondering what I’m thinking. I’ll listen properly, ask questions, reflect things back honestly and be part of the conversation with you. I believe therapy works best when it feels like a genuine two way process. I can’t expect somebody to come in and be open with me if I’m not willing to be real with them too.
I work with people around things like anxiety, low mood, stress, relationships, identity, grief, anger, confidence and the impact of difficult experiences. I also work with psychosexual and relationship concerns, including difficulties around desire, intimacy, sexual confidence, communication, sexual functioning and changes within relationships. I have experience working with trauma, domestic and sexual abuse, and with people from uniformed services or high pressure backgrounds.
I don’t work from one fixed way of doing therapy because people don’t all need the same thing. Sometimes we might need to slow things down and really understand what has happened and why something still affects you. At other times, you might want something much more practical, where we look at what is happening now and what could actually help. Often it’s a mixture of both.
What matters most to me is that you feel able to be yourself with me. You don’t need to know exactly what to say, have everything figured out, or tell your story in the right way. We can start wherever you are and work it out together.
