Sheena

Drug & Alcohol Counselor, Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Psychotherapist and Therapist

Founder & Clinical Director, ELLETEN Recovery

Sheena Shilton is the founder and clinical director of ELLETEN Recovery, bringing over 20 years of expertise in the fields of addiction, mental health, and trauma-informed care. As a Certified Addictions Counsellor (CAC II) and psychotherapist registered with the Canadian College of Professional Counsellors and Psychotherapists (CCPCP), Sheena is dedicated to helping individuals, families, and groups navigate the complex and often hidden emotional challenges associated with substance use, mental health disorders, and relational conflict.

ELLETEN Recovery is rooted in the belief that effective therapy supports clients in achieving balance and growth by addressing the hardships, stressors, and unforeseen events that impact daily life. Using a developmentally informed and client-centered approach, Sheena helps individuals explore how past experiences shape present-day behaviours, thoughts, and emotional responses. Treatment focuses on resolving distorted thinking, dysfunctional patterns, and emotional distress, particularly among those living with addiction and concurrent mental health concerns.

Sheena employs a psychoeducational and integrative framework, drawing on evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Attachment-Based Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Relational Therapy, and Trauma-Focused approaches. Her areas of specialization include, but are not limited to: substance use, co-occurring disorders, trauma and PTSD, codependency, emotional regulation, grief, domestic and emotional abuse, identity issues, self-harm, chronic relapse, and process addictions such as gambling, internet use, and eating disorders.

Over the past decade, Sheena has successfully operated a private practice and developed a Hybrid Addiction and Mental Health Intensive Treatment Program, a flexible therapeutic model designed to support individuals in recovery while accommodating their daily responsibilities. Her passion lies in helping clients break free from destructive behavioural cycles, rebuild self-esteem, and develop healthier relationships with themselves and others. This program has since evolved into a full-service addiction treatment center, now operating as ELLETEN Recovery, offering comprehensive care for a wide range of behavioural and substance use addictions. ELLETEN Recovery provides individualized and group-based support, addressing the complex emotional, psychological, and relational aspects of addiction recovery.

In addition to her clinical work, Sheena is the creator of "Breaking Barriers: Crushing Stigma in Addiction and Mental Health for the Workplace"—a specialized pre-crisis mental health workshop. This training initiative is designed to open the conversation around addiction and mental health in professional settings, particularly as mental wellness becomes an increasingly important workplace priority. The workshop explores the power of language in shaping perceptions of mental health, with a focus on replacing stigmatizing narratives with compassionate, inclusive dialogue. Participants are equipped with practical strategies to foster supportive and empathetic work environments, better recognize early signs of distress, and respond constructively before issues escalate into crisis.

If you are considering psychotherapy but do not know where to start, a free initial consultation is the perfect first step. It will allow you to explore your options, ask questions, and feel more confident about taking the first step towards your well-being.

It is a 30-minute, completely free meeting with a Mental Health specialist that does not obligate you to anything.

What are the benefits of a free consultation?

Who is a free consultation suitable for?

Important:

Potential benefits of a free initial consultation

During this first session: potential clients have the chance to learn more about you and your approach before agreeing to work together.

Offering a free consultation will help you build trust with the client. It shows them that you want to give them a chance to make sure you are the right person to help them before they move forward. Additionally, you should also be confident that you can support your clients and that the client has problems that you can help them cope with. Also, you can avoid any ethical difficult situations about charging a client for a session in which you choose not to proceed based on fit.

We've found that people are more likely to proceed with therapy after a free consultation, as it lowers the barrier to starting the process. Many people starting therapy are apprehensive about the unknown, even if they've had sessions before. Our culture associates a "risk-free" mindset with free offers, helping people feel more comfortable during the initial conversation with a specialist.

Another key advantage for Specialist

Specialists offering free initial consultations will be featured prominently in our upcoming advertising campaign, giving you greater visibility.

It's important to note that the initial consultation differs from a typical therapy session:
