Counselor and Therapist

Counselor and Therapist
I am a recently qualified counsellor who is extremely passionate and happy in my field of work. I come from a community where mental health is often overlooked, with very limited access to support services and high costs. I am aware that these issues occur due to the lack of funding, but it never sat well with me since I have seen the consequences of neglecting mental health. It has now motivated me to be an advocate for mental health and its awareness. As a result, I have pursued a strong academic foundation in counselling and developed practical experience across the NHS and other therapy services. These experiences make me confident in my ability to provide an evidence-based and compassionate counselling service for a diverse array of clients.
In terms of experience, I have completed more than 100 hours of counselling with the NHS, supporting them through various challenges such as depression, anxiety, workplace conflicts, low self-worth and a range of personal issues. I have done so by delivering short-term, goal-oriented therapy using an integrative approach tailored to the pressures of healthcare work. At the NHS, I work closely with my mentor and line manager as part of a multidisciplinary structure.
Alongside this, I have provided above 65 hours of longer-term counselling through Talking Connections (MHM Wales) and Arcus LGBT CIC, working with clients on issues including relationship challenges, body image concerns, health anxiety, and LGBTQ+-focused difficulties. I am looking forward to expanding and specialising my skills through CfD and IPT, and building towards the hours required for BACP accreditation.
My counselling work is grounded in humanistic, psychodynamic, cognitive, and behavioural approaches. Across placements, I have gained experience with managing my own caseload by taking on new referrals and scheduling sessions while updating paperwork. I regularly monitor the clients’ progress through risk checks and outcome measures such as PHQ-9 and GAD-7. I also adapt interventions to meet individual needs.
Additionally, I have experience supporting my peers through mentoring and coaching sessions, facilitating group discussions, and providing feedback on counselling sessions. I am currently expanding my skillset by offering initial client assessments. I am comfortable working flexibly, using various digital platforms and maintaining appropriate records under time pressure.
