Psychologist Job in Edinburgh
Are you a qualified psychologist or psychotherapist based in or around Edinburgh, looking to enhance your private practice? Mentalzon is seeking dedicated and skilled mental health professionals to join our growing UK platform. We connect practitioners like you—including HCPC Registered Psychologists and BACP/UKCP Accredited Counsellors/Psychotherapists—with clients seeking high-quality mental health support.
This is your opportunity to expand your reach, integrate flexible online work with your existing in-person practice, and gain new clients from our UK-wide network, all while maintaining complete professional autonomy. Based in the historic and vibrant city of Edinburgh, you can extend your services digitally across the nation or connect with more local clients seeking your specific expertise.
Mentalzon provides the platform and visibility; you provide the clinical excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Psychotherapy & Counselling: Deliver expert individual, couples, or family therapy, either online via a secure video platform or in-person at your Edinburgh practice, consistent with your professional registration and qualifications.
- Clinical Assessment & Formulation: Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments, develop collaborative case formulations, and create person-centred, evidence-based treatment plans tailored to each client's unique needs.
- Clinical Record Keeping: Maintain confidential and accurate client records in full compliance with GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, and the ethical and professional standards of your registering body (e.g., HCPC, BACP, UKCP).
- Ethical & Legal Practice: Adhere strictly to the ethical frameworks and codes of conduct of your professional body (e.g., BPS, BACP), all relevant UK legislation governing mental health practice, and data protection regulations.
- Practice Management: Professionally manage all client communications, including scheduling, responding to enquiries, and clearly outlining your therapeutic approach, confidentiality terms, fees, and practice policies.
- Direct Fee Management: Establish your own professional fees for therapy sessions and manage the billing and payment process directly with your clients.
Requirements:
- Education: A Master's or Doctoral degree in Psychology, Counselling, Psychotherapy, or a related mental health discipline from a recognised university.
- Registration & Accreditation: Crucially, you must hold current registration or accreditation with a recognised UK professional body. This includes:
- Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration as a Practitioner Psychologist (e.g., Clinical, Counselling, Health Psychologist).
- Accreditation with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
- Registration with the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).
- Accreditation with the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) or other equivalent recognised bodies.
- Independent Practice Status: Your registration/accreditation must permit you to practice independently without the need for clinical supervision (though ongoing professional supervision for your own development is expected).
- Experience: Demonstrable post-qualification experience in providing psychotherapy or counselling within a professional setting.
- Digital Competency: Proficiency in using secure video conferencing technology for telehealth and a solid understanding of digital best practices for online therapy.
- Legal & Ethical Knowledge: A strong working knowledge of GDPR, data protection principles, and the specific ethical guidelines relevant to your professional registration and practice in the UK.
- Professional Indemnity Insurance: You must maintain active professional indemnity insurance that covers your full scope of practice, including online/telehealth services.
Skills:
- Excellent clinical assessment, formulation, and therapeutic intervention skills.
- Superior verbal and written communication abilities.
- A high degree of empathy, cultural sensitivity, and professionalism.
- Strong organisational, time-management, and self-management skills.
- A firm commitment to continuing professional development (CPD) and reflective practice.
Conditions of Collaboration:
- Status: Self-Employed / Independent Practitioner.
- Total Flexibility: You have complete control over your schedule. Offer as few or as many hours as you wish, whether you are building a full-time caseload or supplementing your existing income.
- Full Autonomy: You manage your own caseload, choose your therapeutic modalities (within evidence-based practice), and set your own practice policies.
- Expand Your Practice: Provide therapy online from any private, professional location, or enhance the visibility of your Edinburgh-based practice to attract local clients.
- Set Your Own Rates: You determine your own competitive fees for your professional services.
- Direct Client Payments: Mentalzon does not handle your finances. Clients pay you directly, and we take no commission from your session fees.
