Your Role & Responsibilities as an Independent Practitioner:
- Psychological Therapy: Provide expert psychological therapy to individuals, couples, or families, consistent with your qualifications and professional scope. Offer sessions either in-person from your Leeds-based practice or remotely via a secure video platform.
- Assessment and Formulation: Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments, develop clinical formulations, and create collaborative, evidence-based treatment plans tailored to each client's unique needs.
- Record Keeping & Data Protection: Maintain confidential, accurate, and timely client records in full compliance with GDPR, ICO guidelines, and the ethical standards set by your professional body (e.g., HCPC, BPS).
- Professional and Ethical Standards: Adhere strictly to the code of ethics and conduct of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and/or the British Psychological Society (BPS), alongside all UK laws governing private practice and data protection.
- Client Management: Professionally manage all client communications, including scheduling, responding to enquiries, and clearly outlining your therapeutic approach, confidentiality terms, and practice policies.
- Independent Fee Setting & Billing: Establish your own professional rates for your services and manage the billing and payment process directly with your clients.
Essential Requirements:
- Qualifications: A Master's or Doctoral level degree in a relevant field of psychology (e.g., Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology) from an accredited university.
- Registration: Crucially, you must hold current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Practitioner Psychologist (e.g., Clinical Psychologist, Counselling Psychologist).
- Chartership: Chartered Membership with the British Psychological Society (BPS) is highly desirable.
- Autonomous Practice: You must be qualified and permitted to practice independently without the need for clinical supervision.
- Experience: Proven post-qualification experience delivering psychological therapy in a clinical or private practice setting.
- Professional Indemnity Insurance: You must hold and maintain valid professional indemnity insurance that covers your clinical work, including any telehealth services.
- Data Protection Knowledge: A strong working knowledge of GDPR and best practices for confidentiality and data security in a therapeutic context.
- Digital Competency: Proficiency in using digital tools, including secure video conferencing platforms and, if applicable, electronic record-keeping systems.
