Key Responsibilities

  • Evidence-Based Psychological Services: Provide expert psychological assessment and therapy to individuals, couples, or families. Services can be delivered either in-person from your Melbourne practice location or via secure, confidential telehealth technology, in line with your professional expertise and client needs.
  • Clinical Case Formulation & Treatment Planning: Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments, develop insightful case formulations, and design collaborative, evidence-based treatment plans that are aligned with APS guidelines and tailored to each client's unique circumstances and goals.
  • Clinical Record Keeping: Maintain meticulous, timely, and confidential client records in full compliance with the standards set by the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA), AHPRA, the APS Code of Ethics, and the Australian Privacy Act 1988.
  • Ethical & Professional Practice: Adhere strictly to AHPRA's registration standards, the APS Code of Ethics, and all relevant state and federal laws governing the practice of psychology and telehealth in Australia.
  • Independent Practice Management: Manage all aspects of your client engagement, including scheduling, clear communication of your therapeutic approach and practice policies, and direct management of your professional fees and billing.

Essential Requirements

  • AHPRA Registration: You must hold current, general or specialist registration as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Independent Practice Rights: Your registration must permit you to practice independently without the need for supervision.
  • Experience: Proven post-registration experience in providing psychological therapy and assessment.
  • Business Readiness: As an independent contractor, you must hold an Australian Business Number (ABN).
  • Professional Indemnity Insurance: You must maintain current Professional Indemnity Insurance that covers your full scope of practice, including telehealth services.
  • Telehealth Proficiency: Competence and confidence in using secure video conferencing platforms for clinical work, alongside an understanding of best practices for telehealth delivery in the Australian context.
  • Location: Must be based in Melbourne or the surrounding Victoria region to cater to local clients seeking in-person services, with the ability to offer telehealth Australia-wide.

Your Professional Skills

  • Exceptional clinical assessment, formulation, and therapeutic intervention skills across a range of presentations.
  • A strong understanding of the Australian mental healthcare context, including knowledge of Medicare and private health systems where applicable.
  • Superior interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • A high degree of cultural competence, empathy, and professionalism.
  • Autonomy, reliability, and excellent time management to effectively manage your own caseload.
  • A genuine commitment to professional ethics and continuous professional development (CPD).

The Mentalzon Advantage: Your Independent Practice, Amplified

  • Status: Independent Contractor. You are your own boss.
  • Absolute Autonomy: Enjoy complete freedom to set your own hours, manage your caseload, and choose your therapeutic modalities. Work as little as 5 hours a week or build a full-time practice.
  • Hybrid Practice Model: Seamlessly blend in-person Melbourne clients with telehealth clients from across Australia, creating a resilient and dynamic practice.
  • Financial Control: You determine your session fees. Clients pay you directly—Mentalzon takes no commission on your clinical earnings.

If you are considering psychotherapy but do not know where to start, a free initial consultation is the perfect first step. It will allow you to explore your options, ask questions, and feel more confident about taking the first step towards your well-being.

It is a 30-minute, completely free meeting with a Mental Health specialist that does not obligate you to anything.

What are the benefits of a free consultation?

Who is a free consultation suitable for?

Important:

Potential benefits of a free initial consultation

During this first session: potential clients have the chance to learn more about you and your approach before agreeing to work together.

Offering a free consultation will help you build trust with the client. It shows them that you want to give them a chance to make sure you are the right person to help them before they move forward. Additionally, you should also be confident that you can support your clients and that the client has problems that you can help them cope with. Also, you can avoid any ethical difficult situations about charging a client for a session in which you choose not to proceed based on fit.

We've found that people are more likely to proceed with therapy after a free consultation, as it lowers the barrier to starting the process. Many people starting therapy are apprehensive about the unknown, even if they've had sessions before. Our culture associates a "risk-free" mindset with free offers, helping people feel more comfortable during the initial conversation with a specialist.

Another key advantage for Specialist

Specialists offering free initial consultations will be featured prominently in our upcoming advertising campaign, giving you greater visibility.

It's important to note that the initial consultation differs from a typical therapy session:
