Clinical Psychologist, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapist, Marriage & Family Therapist and Therapist

Clinical Psychologist, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapist, Marriage & Family Therapist and Therapist
I’m Emile du Toit, a clinical psychologist with over 20 years in private practice. I hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology (cum laude, Rhodes University) and am registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA – PS0083291) and the Board of Healthcare Funders (BHF Practice number 0201901). I work online with clients around the world, as well as in person at my practice in Cape Town.
My work is grounded in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and the wider family of approaches that all fit within the cognitive modality — CBT, REBT, Schema Therapy, MBCT, ACT and DBT — so I tailor how we work to you rather than applying a one-size-fits-all method. CBT is practical and evidence-based, and for many of the difficulties people bring — anxiety, depression, stress, burnout — meaningful change often comes within a focused number of sessions. Where something runs deeper, I have the training and experience to work at that level too: as brief as your situation allows, as deep as it needs to be.
I work with individuals and couples across a wide range of concerns, including anxiety and panic, depression and mood difficulties, trauma and PTSD, grief and bereavement, addiction (both substance and behavioural), relationship and marital difficulties, life transitions, and stress and burnout. I have particular depth in trauma work and in couples therapy.
I also have a special interest in working with South Africans and other expats living abroad, who often value seeing someone who understands both the therapy and the experience of building a life in a new country. Wherever you are in the world, sessions can be arranged around your time zone.
If you’re considering therapy for yourself or someone close to you, you’re welcome to get in touch.
