Registered Psychotherapist
Registered Psychotherapist
I have been working with clients for 14 years. My journey in psychotherapy started in 1997 when I chose psychology as my University major. Back then it was not even a real profession because the general belief was that “normal” people never need therapy.
I have always been curious how the brain works and why people behave and make choices the way they do, so from 1997 to 2002 I studied psychotherapy in Belarusian State University. The program was mostly theoretical and I knew that I was not prepared to works with actual clients.
In third year of University I was offered to join Belarusian-Italian program on Clinical Psychotherapy and I happily took that chance. No, I didn’t study in Italy, from 2000 to 2002 the professor and his translator were traveling to my hometown, reading lectures, and challenging us with peculiar questions. I loved the course but it also was theoretical! I kept wondering what would I do when I see real living breathing human in from of me?
This is how I found the Moscow Gestalt Institute. I studied there from 2000 to 2004. It was all practical and I was trilled, exited, and relived to add practical skills to my theoretical knowledge. It was many hours of “playing” therapist and client with fellow students, many hours of group therapy and individual therapy. We all were working on uncovering own traumas and fears, finding our own voices, and the most important - learning to hear and see a person in front of us. The Moscow Gestalt Institute shaped me into a therapist I am right now.
From 2002 to 2008 I worked as a psychotherapist in several companies and had my private practice in Minsk, Belarus. I moved to Canada in 2008 without knowing the language and was really determined to officially come back into my field. It was not easy, I was working and studying English, dropping English classes and starting again. In 2011 I discovered the Gestalt Institute of Toronto and enrolled into the 5 year training program. Yes, I have diplomas from 2 Gestalt Institutes and Yes, Gestalt Therapy is the main approach I use when I work with clients.
I became a Registered Psychotherapist in Canada in 2016 and since 2019 I also have been supervising therapists who are just starting threir own professional journeys. I love my job and I believe that I can call myself a “good enough therapist”.
