We know parenting is a difficult phase of life. And most parents are undergoing constant stress and struggle. Since every parent have different environmental circumstances and support systems it affects the way they treat their kids.
Some parents may lack a proper support system, may be facing some problems in their lives, may also had a difficult childhood or they simply have poor stress coping skills. All these circumstances can make the parent more aggressive. When such parents do not have a proper way to channel their stress they may constantly channelize their stress by getting aggressive on their children. Such behaviors can have long-lasting effects on the positive development of the child. Research have shown that children raised under aggressive parents have shown to have low self-esteem, anxiety problems, and insecurities they tend to be aggressive too when they are adults. Since anger is readily observed and imitated by the kids most of the kids learn and adopt this behavior as well. Aggressive behavior of parents makes them untrustworthy for kids and they will be hesitant to share problems with their parents. Such kids are more prone to victims of bullying, sexual, emotional, or physical harassment, and are more prone to drug abuse and depression later in their lives.
Parents who have anger management problems should work on it. With the help of proper counselling and professional help, they can overcome their aggressive behavior and can provide a positive nurturing environment to their kids. This can in turn strengthen the parent-child bond and can foster positive child development.
