Procrastination to Precrastination
Habits is defined as a regular and repeated action done by a person. It can be said that an usual way of someone's behavior can be called habit. Habits can be good or bad. However, research studies at Duke University says that habits contribute about 40% of our behaviors every single day. According to research studies our life is sum of our habits.
Procrastination: Procrastination can be defined as delayed or postponed act of doing or completing any task. The force that prevents us from completing our task on scheduled time and we carry it over for some other time is called procrastinating behavior. Procrastination is a common behavior which we all encounter at some point. As mentioned above, that excessive of any habit is harmful, in the same way procrastination is also harmful if it becomes our habit.
Harmful effects of Procrastination:
- Missed opportunities: The habit of procrastination can lead to miss various opportunities that could have been beneficial foe us. It will prevent us from growing and securing our ultimate goal.
- Increase in stress level: Postponing or delaying of tasks makes us stressed, because we know that the work has to be done but we keep on delaying it. This releases stress of not completing the work and feeling of burden stresses us.
- Decreased productivity: When we tend to postpone or delay any task we also reduce our level of productivity. The time that was scheduled for completing the work remains unutilized which results in decrease in productivity. It can lead to a big losses in companies, factories and other workplaces.
Ways to stop Procrastination:
- Making to-do list
- Doing most important task for 15 minutes
- Breaking tasks into small chunks
- Starting day with the hard task
- Prioritizing goals
- Away from distractions
- Rewarding yourself
- Aiming completion instead of perfection
- Seeking professional help
Above mentioned are some ways to deal with procrastination and changing a harmful habit to a good habit.
