How a random act of kindness made my day!
I woke up this morning and wasn't excited to start my day. My routine felt monotonous. Same people. Same place. Same tasks. I somehow forced myself to get on with my day. I said good morning to a few people I met along the way. I didn't mean it. Is it a sort of automatic behaviour I have learned? Or do I do it out of politeness? Whatever the reason, I am not complaining.
To my surprise, I got a message in the afternoon from one of my classmates from the online classes I am taking. I had never interacted with her before. She asked me if she could call me. I said yes, sure. I thought maybe she needed some help with the coursework. I received her call and asked her how I could help her.
She said she just wanted to call me to tell me that she likes the way I speak. She finds my input in the class pretty valuable. I was awestruck. I never thought anybody noticed or cared. I am sometimes so involved in my own life that I forget about other people. Sometimes consciously, other times not so consciously.
She said she just wanted to tell me this. I honestly didn't know how to react. I said thank you, naturally. We had a conversation for five minutes. I put down the phone. A big smile crept up on my face. Did that just happen? Haha!
Sometimes, a random act of kindness can bring you out of the deepest places. It can show you light when there is complete darkness. It can give you a reason to believe that there is still hope and love in the world.
All you need to do is look around, and I am sure you'll find a reason to think, "Maybe life isn't so bad.". Maybe I don't have everything I need or want. Some days may get to me. But that doesn't mean I can't find a reason to smile and carry on. And maybe make a few others smile as well along the way. I am breathing. I am alive. I feel good. I hope you do too.
